CAF has completed a battery range test with a series-production Class 557 BEMU for Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr, recording 273 km in battery-only operation at the Siemens Test and Validation Center in Wildenrath.
CAF also evaluated traction performance under demanding operating conditions and monitored the interaction between vehicle control, energy management and battery behaviour.
The measured data will now be compared with simulation results produced during development and used for future battery-electric multiple-unit projects. The test is relevant beyond the Class 557 programme because it provides operating data from a production-specification vehicle rather than a dedicated demonstrator.
