Greater Anglia is preparing to install a pioneering modular footbridge at Stowmarket station, marking a significant milestone in UK rail infrastructure. The new ‘AVA’ footbridge—designed with accessibility at its core—will feature integrated lifts and is set to be installed over the weekend of Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November, coinciding with planned engineering works on the Norwich–Ipswich line.

Brand-new visuals released by the operator showcase the bridge’s sleek, stainless steel design, which promises both aesthetic appeal and long-term durability. The modular structure is engineered for rapid installation and reduced on-site commissioning time, thanks to its ‘plug-and-play’ lift system.

The £5.5 million scheme, funded through the Department for Transport’s Access for All programme, replaces the existing concrete footbridge with a more sustainable and passenger-friendly alternative. Currently, the only step-free route across platforms is via the level crossing—an arrangement the new bridge will significantly improve.
