The article on e-bikes ( & self-driving cars ) has the usual US problem – the rest of the planet, which is well ahead of the US, here.
Though- to me – one phrase stands out: with sales of e-cargo bikes—designed to transport children or cargo yes!
In NE London & the City this is immediately apparent, with an amazing variety of “cargo” bikes whizzing along our streets, & “ordinary” e-bikes with trailers, for goods or children also multiplying rapidly.
Anyway, I think that we are behind the Dutch & the Germans, who are also well-down this road.
All that remains is for the legal constraints & framwork to catch up with the new reality & to distinguish (As stated in the article) between reputable manufacturer’s products & those whose electrical safety is somewhat compromised. TfL have already taken steps in this direction, of course.
As an e-bike user myself, my only worry is the large proportion of -e-bie users, after dark, riding around in dark clothing with no lights (!)
