Transport for London (TfL) has started the tender process for tunnelling works on its Elephant and Castle station capacity upgrade with a pre-procurement market engagement event this month. The capacity upgrade at the southeast London station will construct a new entrance and ticket hall which will be integrated with the Elephant and Castle shopping centre redevelopment.
The industry event on 27 May will be used by TfL to inform interested parties of its proposed procurement of a supplier to deliver the tunnelling works for the upgrade. The event will also gauge the market’s appetite, capacity and capability for the project. The period indicative notice (Pin) published on 29 April however is not a call for competition and is not published with the intention of reducing any time limits for the receipt of tenders.
Developer Delancey started work on constructing the reinforced concrete station box for the new ticket hall in January.
The box, which will provide more than 1,700m3 of new concourse space for passengers and improve station capacity by over 30%, is expected to be finished in four years.
