I wonder if we’ll ever hear about how well the Moscow double deck trains work in close headway operation. Most operators learn that overall capacity does not increase by as much, if at all, when comparing a close headway service of double deck vs single deck trains. This is because the station dwells get longer as more people are using the same number of doorways. Even the Southern Railway realised this 70 years ago. Double deck trains have their place and tend to work well on longer distance services where individual station dwells are less relevant.
