Putting a squadron of heavy lorries onto the roads around Euston seems like a very retrograde move.
I recall when the DLR extenstion from the Isle of Dogs to Lewisham was about to commence construction, I attended meetings between local resident associations and the construction companies. The project manager laid out detailed plans of the way lorry movement (to handle spoil) would be scheduled. One of the local residents had a copy of the Act of Parliament (enabling the project to be built) in his hand and pointed out that removing spoil by road was specifically banned by the Act. That same resident had (years earlier) met with politicians and had lobbied them (and succeeeded) to add in the clause to ban lorry movements, to minimise loical disruption. Clearly none of the project lawyers had thought to tell the operational staff about this important caveat – I still remember the look of horror on the face of the project manager as the relevant section of the Act was read out to him. It was envisaged in the Act that spoil would be put into barges (moored by Island Gardens park), but in the end the spoil was spread over the football pitch in Millwall Park (which previously used to flood often as the water table was so near the surface) and new playing pitches installed after construction finished.
