Siemens is launching a Digital Rail Service operation in the US. The business will use intelligent sensors and advanced software platforms to put intelligence behind billions of data points on the country’s rail network. Siemens will be partnering with Atlanta on operational insights for downtown streetcars and Charlotte on a pilot programme for prescriptive maintenance. The new platform will virtually monitor, analyse and predict rail operations to ensure a smarter, safer and reliable system. This will allow the US to improve their operations and update their infrastructure to the digital era. Powered by software tools, the Digital Service business will help rail operators reduce unplanned downtime, improve operational efficiency, enable improved business planning and performance, as well as generate energy and cost savings.
By making pre-emptive adjustments to service strategies and planning, operators can better avoid light rail service interruptions and delays and increase the availability of their overall fleet.
