Rail infrastructure operator HS1 is recruiting a design team to expand capacity at St Pancras International station in central London [Deadline: 12 February 2025]. The company – which has a 30-year concession to run the 109km rail line between St Pancras International in London and the Channel Tunnel – is recruiting a team to carry out a RIBA Stage 2 study focusing on the landmark William Henry Barlow-designed terminus.
The procurement for a design and operational concept feasibility partner comes shortly after HS1 announced the findings of a study looking at the potential for expanded passenger capacity at the Grade I-listed St Pancras International terminus.
According to the report, there are various opportunities to increase the current capacity of 1,800 travellers an hour to nearly 5,000. Landolt + Brown Architects was selected to work on the initial study last year. Key aims include delivering more efficient operations and enabling additional international rail services.
