    The “West Riding Limited” was probably the ultimate expression of such, in this country

  2. WRT to Jago Hazard on seat comfort. Given the choice between 5h10m in a MK2D with a guaranteed table with original BR seat and 4h45m in a pendolino which is not much better than Ryanair for comfort or legroom. I’m MK2D every time. Why can’t we have the same comfort that the French, Germans, Swiss, Dutch and Belgians enjoy in 2nd Class seats? It’s nonsense to give up and say that we can’t afford it as all these other countries can and they have otherwise comparable economies and living standards. E.g. TGV inoui is light years ahead of the passenger experience in the UK.
