Re. the Belisha postcards, the route to Oban including Paisley suggests that the Erskine Ferry, predecessor of the bridge, was used. This would involve leaving the A74 for Strathaven and E Kilbride and then across Glasgow’s southern suburbs. Doesn’t seem worthwhile doing that just to avoid the city centre, given the low traffic level at the time (1938).
