Thanks to the Rail Technology Magazine community hubs link I now know that Vernon Everitt, the former Managing Director of my old department at TfL, has popped up as Transport Commissioner for Greater Manchester. He loved sending out chatty inspirational emails at TfL every week but then vanished very suddenly without bothering to say goodbye and he was never spoken of again. It was all very mysterious and the assumption was that he left under a cloud, but despite that he seems to have fallen on his feet in a way that lesser mortals rarely do.
