Oh wow, afaik El Tren Maya that the HSTs are going to weren’t exactly the best project even before the delay of electrification
For anyone who has 2½ hours to spend on a few persons loosely discussing the problems with El Tren Maya I can strongly recommend the Well there’s your problem podcast. Tren Maya uses Alstom vehicles built in Mexico, the HSTs maybe evaluated for the Trans Ocean line.
The Calakmul biosphere reserve is a UNESCO world heritage site on the Mayan path. President L Pez Obrador promised that not a single tree would be felled. So far the Mexican government states 3.4 million have been cut down though other estimates put that above 9 million.
