A throwaway line in the article about Japanese trainspotters sparked a thought. Emergency stop buttons at level crossings were mentioned. I’m not aware of any such feature in the UK. I know there’s a telephone at some crossings, but perhaps emergency stop buttons might help improve safety? Or might they prvoke behaviour that’s worse then seen in what I’d thought was the orderly society of Japan?
I had to read it twice. Very nice.
