Germany’s state-owned railway company, Deutsche Bahn, promises to transform public transportation (but more importantly the morning commute) with their 1:1 model of a future train concept ‘ideenzug’ (translation: idea train). The concept, which was presented to the public in Nuremberg last week, hopes to be a future rival in the rise of autonomous cars.
For fitness obsessed passengers the train has coaches filled with gym equipment and for lazier travellers – or perhaps just busier? – gaming areas and relaxation booths offer a more reposed journey. DB regio‘s concept also boasts play paradises for kids, public viewing areas and work spaces, as well as less impressive features such as ‘modern seating’… otherwise known as swivel chairs.
‘We want to offer our local transport customers more in the future – a new and unique travel experience,‘ explains Dr Jörg Sandvoß, CEO of DB Regio. ‘Our goal is that the public transport commuters think about such ideas in their future tenders.‘ The project is part of the group’s rail future program for more quality and service. DB Regio hopes to inspire purchasers in the federal states of transport to order tenders in an ‘innovative, sustainable and customer-oriented manner’.
