With Crossrail having escaped the Spending Review intact, progress continues on the project. This is particularly noticable in the West End, and further details of the work there will now start to come to light, as Crossrail have confirmed that they will shortly be submitting an Schedule 7 Planning Application to Westminster Council for the Tottenham Court Road Crossrail Station.
The Crossrail station at Tottenham Court Road will be no small beast – especially once it is joined with the newly rebuilt Tube station. Constructed on the site bounded by Oxford Street to the north, Great Chapel Street to the west, Dean Street to the east and Diadem Court to the south, it’ll stretch about 1000m Underground and be spread over five floors, including a street level Ticket Hall.
Ahead of that Planning Application, Crossrail have released the first images of architects Hawkins Brown’s final design, which can be found below. The cross section image gives quite a nice idea of how the station will be structured.
If all goes to plan, construction will start next year. Crossrail have also confirmed that provision for oversite development is included, development of which would be led by Derwent London (they currently hold the Astoria site’s freehold).
